– The international jury consisting of members from six different countries, awarded 1st Prize in the Junior Competition to the 13 year old, Kerson Q Xun Leong from Canada.
“ I feel great! I feel so relieved now. But I don’t really know how I’m going to celebrate”, said a slightly shocked Leong.
“This is fantastic! We had quite an unforgettable journey to come here, and now it’s unforgettable in a whole different way”, said Leong’s proud parents.
The International Jury consisting of Erich Gruenberg (UK), Lidia Baich (Austria), Renaud Capuçon (France), Hu Kun (China & UK), Arve Tellefsen (Norway), Kyoko Takezawa (Japan) and Lars Anders Tomter (Norway), had a difficult task of choosing a winner for this year’s competition. “We have heard quite a number of Menuhin Competitions, but I think this particular one had the highest standard of them all. You were all terrific. You made it difficult for us, because we would have liked to give all of you prizes”, said Erich Gruenberg, Chairman of the Jury.
However, it was Kerson Q Xun Leong, who dazzled the jury with his interpretation of Zigeunerweisen by Pablo de Sarasate.
“There were no doubts about the first prize. I think it was the power of music. When you find someone who plays in a way that catches your heart, then everyone is united”, said jury member Hu Kun.
Kerson Q Xun Leong will receive a cash prize of 40 000 NOK donated by Bernt J Fossum.
Second prize was awarded to Stephen Waarts (13) from the U.S.A and third prize to Ji Eun Anna Lee (13) from The Republic of Korea.
