Tirsdag 23. mai kl. 14 er det presentasjon av to FoU-prosjekter i den nye kantinen på musikkhøgskolen. Felles for presentasjonen er fiolinisten og komponisten Ole Bull og familien Herresthal, samt komponisten Olav Anton Thommessen.
Harald Herresthal forteller om den omfattende biografiserien Ole Bull – en kunstner og hans tid. Det første av fire bind foreligger nå.
Peter Herresthal og Olav Anton Thommessen forteller om arbeidet med fiolinkonserten ”Bull’s Eye”. En CD-innspilling med verket er nylig gitt ut på platemerket BIS.

Soloist Peter Herresthal does an excellent job with what would have been a taxing solo part even under normal circumstances. Bull was very much Norway's answer to Paganini, and Thommessen's addition of the full panoply of modern playing techniques doesn't make the violinist's job any easier. The Oslo Philharmonic also plays very well under Rolf Gupta, making this one of the standout contemporary music releases of 2006. Certainly any recording of one of Thommessen's major orchestral works, never mind one this good, must be counted an event. Stunning engineering, particularly vivid with the extra spatial presence of SACD multichannel sound, completes this wholly winning picture.

To me, a basic measure for assessing a new piece like this is, “do I want to hear it again?” The answer to this question here is a resounding YES. … Cantabile is as much a showpiece for Peter Herresthal’s superb musicianship as the concerto. … BIS’s production values are as ever to the highest standard on this hybrid SACD recording. I recommend it on the strength of the performances, the recording, and the quality of the compositions, all of which make this something of a must for the new music enthusiast.
