Position vacant: Professor II of percussion

The position is for a fixed term of four years, and will be vacant from 1 August 2012. It is a part-time appointment, 20 % of a full-time position, involving teaching in percussion, interpretation and chamber music. Submission deadline: 21 May 2012.

Duties and responsibilities
Duties comprise tuition and guidance of students in percussion performance, interpretation and chamber music within bachelor and master's degree programs, according to agreements prior to each academic year. Teaching is given on an individual basis, in groups or in masterclasses.


Qualifications
Applicants must document:

  • Comprehensive artistic activity as a percussion soloist and chamber musician at the highest international level.
     
  • Familiarity with a broad range of solo and chamber repertoire and performance experience in various types of concert situations.
     
  • Artistic activity at a high level in recent years, with an expectation of continued activity at a professor level.
     
  • Pedagogic experience at the highest level.


Certain special qualifications will also be emphasized in the evaluation of applicants - traits and experience that reveal a desire to further develop the field of percussion and an interest in experimentation and innovation. Examples of prior experience that will be appreciated are:

  • Experience with interdisciplinary artistic work
     
  • Competency in the field of music technology
     
  • Artistic research or development at an international level within areas related to percussion.


The appointee must be able to teach in one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) or English.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee will focus primarily on the evaluation of submitted documentation of artistic and pedagogic qualifications. Applicants must submit three copies of the application and all enclosures (including sound recordings) that are to be taken into consideration in the evaluation process. Those applicants found best qualified will also be called upon to take part in an audition, a trial lesson and an interview.

The position is subject to current regulations that apply to employees at the Norwegian Academy of Music.


The Norwegian Academy of Music has few female professors. Women are therefore especially encouraged to apply. In the case of approximately equivalent qualifications, a female applicant will be preferred over a male applicant.
