Residence permit, accommodation and getting here

Published: 06. September 2010

Residence permit

Students who have been accepted at the Norwegian Academy of Music and who originate from outside the EU, will need to apply for a residence permit.

Please contact your nearest Norwegian embassy or consulate for more information. You are advised to do this as soon as possible.

Students from EU countries who plan to stay in Norway for a period of less than three months, and all students from the other Nordic countries, do not need a residence permit.

See more information from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration.

Accomodation

The Academy has no student housing facilities. Accommodation for students is administered by The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo (SiO).

All questions or applications concerning accommodation should be directed to SiO. Their web site at www.sio.no contains contact information, as well as useful information about student accommodation and how to apply directly for a student flat.

Exchange students coming to the Norwegian Academy of Music can apply for accommodation through SiO.

Meals

SiO runs a number of restaurants and cafeterias, 30 in all, one of which is located at the Academy of Music. Healthy menus are composed bearing in mind that most students live on a tight budget. A dinner costs between 40 - 55 NOK.

Getting here

Oslo is easy to reach by most modes of transport. The main capitals of Europe have a Norwegian Tourist Board-office where you can easily get information (see www.visitnorway.com)

Gardermoen Airport

Tickets for the airport express train (Flytoget) cost NOK 160, with half-price tickets for students. (Local trains (NSB) cost half as much and only take 5-10 minutes longer. They run frequently.) The airport bus (Flybussen) from Gardermoen to the centre of Oslo costs NOK 130, half price for students. The last stop on the bus, Radisson SAS Scandinavian Hotel, Holbergs gate 30, is very close to the main campus.
