This is a one-year study programme and is intended for applicants with a classical music background who wish to undertake a year’s study with one of the Norwegian Academy of Music’s teachers, for example in order to develop their performance skills, concentrate on a particular repertoire or prepare for auditions/competitions. The programme is aimed at applicants who have already attained a level of performance equivalent to Master’s level. Students admitted to the programme may be able to take an extra year of study in order to complete a Master’s programme, if they do not already have a master’s degree.
The programme comprises 45 ECTS-credits in performance-related subjects and 15 ECTS-credits in elective courses.
Admission to the In-Depth Performance Studies programme requires a Bachelor's Degree in Music or the equivalent, with minimum 80 ECTS-credits from performance-related subjects. Entrance examinations, corresponding to the examinations for the Master’s Degree Programme in Performance, Principal instrument/Chamber music, will be held in the fourth week of February. Candidates for the programme are expected to demonstrate a level of performance equivalent to a completed four-year bachelor programme in performance. There is a limited number of places on the programme.
Entrance Examinations
The application should include the following documents:
- A programme of 45 minutes’ duration.
The programme must include at least one work of a high degree of difficulty.
- A repertoire list for main instrument showing that the applicant has studied works amounting to a performance time of at least 360 minutes, of which at least 40 minutes is chamber music.
- A summary of the applicant’s own experience and practice as a performer.
- A written statement of the applicant’s intentions for the programme.
At the audition the applicant must:
- Perform approx. 25 minutes of the programme, chosen by the jury.
- Discuss with the jury her/his reasons for applying and expectations for the study programme.
