Repertoire requirements for master's level performance programmes

These requirements are for the following programmes:

The applicant prepares a programme for the auditions of 30-45 minutes duration. Singers prepare 25 minutes.

Applicants who wish to use an accompanist from the Academy must prepare a programme according to the requirements listed below. Singers must submit sheet music for the accompanist with the application form. It is not necessary for applicants on other instruments to submit sheet music.

Applicants that do not require an accompanist from the Academy prepare a self-chosen programme with a comparable difficulty level as the requirements listed below.

At the auditions the applicant performs approx. 25 minutes of the programme. The jury selects the pieces. The applicant will not have the opportunity to prepare with the accompanist.

 

 

Repertoire requirements for applicants with accompanist from the Academy

 

Bassoon

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from bassoon concerto by Mozart.
  2. 1st movement from bassoon concerto by Hummel or Weber.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Cello

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from cello concerto by Haydn, C Major or D Major.
  2. 1st movement from cello concerto by Dvorak, Shostakovich (No. 1), Elgar (1st and 2nd movements) or Tchaikovsky’s Roccoco Varations.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece.

Clarinet

  1. 1st or 2nd movements from clarinet concerto by Mozart.
  2. 1st movement from clarinet concerto by Carl Nielsen, or Debussy: Première Rhapsodie.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Double bass

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from double bass concerto by Dittersdorf or Vanhal.
  2. 1st movement from double bass concerto by Bottesini (B Minor) or Koussevitsky.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece.

Euphonium

  1. Philip Wilby: Concerto for euphonium and piano.
  2. Wolfgang Plagge: Sonata for euphonium and piano (Op. 64) or Jan Bach: Concert Variations for euphonium and piano.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Flute

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from flute concerto in G Major by Mozart.
  2. 1st movement from flute concerto by Nielsen or 1st and 2nd movements from flute concerto by Ibert.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Horn

  1. Mozart K. 495 (No. 4), 1st movement, or Neuling Bagatelle.
  2. 1st or 3rd movement from Richard Strauss concerto No. 2.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Oboe

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from oboe concerto by Mozart.
  2. 1st movement from oboe concerto by Strauss.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Recorder

  1. 1st and 3rd movements (Ouverture and Air a l’Italienne) from G. Ph. Telemann’s Suite in A Minor for recorder and strings.
  2. 1st movement from a recorder concerto by A. Vivaldi.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Saxophone

  1. Saxophone concerto by Glazunov up to and including the cadenza.
  2. Desenclos: Prelude, cadence et final, or Ibert: Concertino da camera.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Trombone

  1. Henri Tomasi: Trombone concerto.
  2. G.F.Handel: Concerto in F Minor, or concerto by J.G.Albrechtsberger.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Tuba

  1. Ralph Vaughan Williams: Concerto for Basstuba.
  2. Trygve Madsen: Sonata, or Paul Hindemith:  Sonata.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Trumpet

  1. Trumpet concerto by Haydn or Humme.
  2. 1st movement from trumpet concerto by Tomasi, or Honegger: Intrad.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece from the last century.

Viola

  1. 1st and 2nd movements from viola concerto by Hoffmeister or Stamitz (Op. 1), or 1st and 2nd movements from Schubert’s Sonata for Arpeggione.
  2. 1st movement from viola concerto by Walton, Hindemith (Schwanendreher) or Bartók.
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece.

Violin

  1. 1st and 2nd movements with cadenza from violin concerto No. 3, 4 or 5 by Mozart.
  2. 1st movement from violin concerto by Beethoven, Mendelssohn (E Minor), Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Bartók (No. 2) or Nielsen (1st and 2nd movements).
  3. The applicant’s own choice of unaccompanied solo piece.

Vocal Studies

The applicants own choice of programme of 25 minutes duration (including any works for solo voice). Sheet music for the accompanist must be submitted with the application form.
