Degrees

The Norwegian Academy of Music awards the following degrees:

  • Bachelor degree - containing 180 or 240 credits
  • Master's degree - containing 120 credits
  • Doctoral degree (PhD)

A completed 4 year Bachelor programme will satisfy the requirements of a Bachelor degree. A completed 2 year Advanced or Master's degree programme will satisfy the requirements for a Master's degree.

In addition, it is possible to apply for a Bachelor degree containing 180 credits in freely composed subjects. A requirement is that a minimum of 60 credits have been gained at the Academy.

Issuing diplomas

A diploma (degree certificate) is issued automatically after the study programme has been completed, for those who fulfill the requirements. It is not necessary to apply for a diploma for those following a regular programme.

The diploma is sent by mail to the address registered as "Semester address". It is therefore important that students ensure that address is updated at the end of the studies.

The following is attached:

  • 1 diploma, 4 pages in A3 format
  • 1 Diploma Supplement
  • 1 ECTS transcript

In some cases, a statement from the examination jury on advanced studies may be attached.

Ideally, the Diploma should be issued by 1st of July, which is the general time limit for forwarding attachments with applications in Norway. We may, however, deviate from this date due to late examinations or the lack of complete reports of completed courses. Students should ensure that they have reported all compulsory activities, such as Chamber Music and so on.

Checklist

Please check the following to see if you're eligible for a diploma:

  • Are all courses in the Study Plan registered as passed or, where applicable, exempted?

  • Have 240 or 120 credits been achieved?

  • Is the quota of elective courses fulfilled, or is anything lacking?

  • Are all forms reporting Chamber Music (Bachelor) or Repertoire Studies (Master's) filled out and delivered to the administration?

  • Do you have exemptions from courses, and have these been registered?

  • Have you participated in an exchange programme? If so, are all courses from this period approved?
