Interpretative Choices in Early Romantic Music

Description of Objectives and Themes:
The project will focus on performance and study different musical practices related to the early romantic music. Beethoven is central, but alsoother composers from the first half of the 1800s are relevant.

The aim of the project is to explore the options a modern
musician faces when performing music from the first half ofthe 1800s. Here, the historically informed interpretations and modernperformance tradition will confront each other. The stylistic breach between the classical and romantic willalso be emphasized. By examining the historical interpretative choices that lies in theearly romantic music in the light of our modern ideas andtaste, the aim of the project is to contribute to new musical insight for this particular repertoire.

Organization:
The project will be organized through active forums and networks wheremembers of the focus  area will present and discuss theirprojects.

Activities:
• Concert Series based on thematic presentation.
• Edited recordings of the concerts or single studio recording, and in some cases,commercially released sound recordings
• Monthly group meetings
• Presentations in concert and lecture format
• Conferences and seminars
• Teaching, primarily at the master level
• Thematic collections

Documentation:
• Concerts, live recordings and CD recordings
• Articles and interviews presented in  for ex. Music and Practice
• Edited concert recordings or audio recordings sent in NRK or published on ourwebsite
• Thesis and dissertation
• Conference or seminar contributions
