The board at SiO decided the 15th of June in favour of a joint health and counselling service for all students that are members of SiO.
During the spring semester of 2011 there has been a fragmented health and counselling service for our students, dependent on the student welfare organization each student belonged to before the merger between SiO and OAS. A health services are an important welfare service for students at the Foundation of Student Life in Oslo and Akershus. SiOs ambition is to give all students in the newly merged organisation a joint and equal health service.
It has taken some time to work out a satisfactory joint health and counselling service because of the large discrepancies between the services provided by the two organizations before the merger.
Joint service starting the fall of 2011
At the start of the fall semester in 2011 a joint service will be in place for all students that are members of SiO. All students that have paid their semester fee will then gain access to all our counselling and health services regardless of which educational institution they belong to.
Students will receive the option of a primary doctor (GP) at SiO, access to the psychological/psychiatric unit (Blindern campus), psychologist (city centre), GP station (Blindern Campus and Nydalen, but only for emergencies unless you have your primary doctor at SiO), and the Dentist Health Service at Blindern. A joint counselling service will also be ready for the 2nd semester.
Regular General Practitioner and refund
At the start of the autumn semester all students affiliated with SiO regardless of educational institution have the option to chose a Regular General Practitioner (GP) at SiO and make use of our refund scheme. Note that a refund will only be given to students that have a GP at SiO. You will receive refund on health consultations from your first money spent. The refund scheme is under development. You will receive more information regarding the scheme in November of 2011.
As a transitional arrangement for 2011, students studying at schools that until the 1st of January 2011 were a member of OAS, receive refund for health expenses worth more than NOK 500 on their co-payment cards up to the payment card limit. For students at HiOA studying at Kjeller/Kongsvinger this arrangement will continue beyond 2011.
The arrangement with a health fund at schools that until the 1st of January 2011 were a member of OAS, will cease to exist after the 1st of August.
Student Counselling
A joint counselling service will be in place as of fall. All students at SiO will forthwith be able to utilize student counselling services as courses, groups and conversation. Student Counselling have four offices at their disposal: Kristian Ottosens hus at Blindern, in Oslo city centre Wergelandsveien 27, at HiOA location Kjeller and at BI in Nydalen. You will find further information at Student Counselling’s web pages.
