On Thursday 21 January, researchers and practitioners in the field of mental health from all over Scandinavia will gather for a conference on "Music and mental health work with children and young people" at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The conference is being organised by the Centre for Music and Health at the Academy.
Papers at the conference include presentations of ongoing research projects in the field of music therapy, including:
Hans Peter Solli: Music therapy as an integrated part of standard treatment programmes in the field of mental health
Marie Skånland: (Mobile) music as a "coping strategy" - the use of MP3-players
Ingeborg Lunde Vestad: "Tufsa dances" - a child's use of music from children's television to process life experiences
(All papers to be held in Norwegian.)
Around 200 participants have registered for the conference, which makes it perhaps the largest conference that the Academy has hosted.
The Centre for Music and Health was established in 2008. Its objective is to increase knowledge and understanding of the relationship between music and health through research and academic and professional development. It is one of four recently established centres in this field of research, including institutions in Helsinki and Gothenburg.
