Are you interested in learning more about music masterclasses online? Perhaps you have experience that you would like to discuss with others? On 29 & 30 April 2010 the Norwegian Academy of Music is holding a seminar about online masterclasses, which will include a live masterclass in collaboration with Eastman School of Music, New York.
For several years now, the Norwegian Academy of Music has been testing the possibilities for masterclasses over the Internet; in the last year in close collaboration with Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The technology used may vary, from commercial video-conferencing systems to more experimental technologies, but the inter-institutional and pedagogical challenges remain the same: how to use these new possibilities for interaction within the framework of one's own institutional traditions and curriculum.
To try to formulate some answers – and to demonstrate what we have been doing so far – we are delighted to invite participants from other music education institutions to this seminar on online masterclasses. The centrepiece of the seminar will be an online masterclass demonstration between the Academy and Eastman, followed the next day by an open discussion about the experience – by the teachers as well as students and administrators. The seminar opens, however, with an in-depth presentation of Internet in general and of some of the various technical solutions that exist for online teaching.
The seminar will be held at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway, on 29–30 April 2010.'
