The Norwegian Academy of Music is an internationally acclaimed institution for music education with a leading position in the Norwegian field of music. The Academy has educated many of the leading musicians in Norway, and the teaching staff of the academy is in the forefront of their professional fields. The Norwegian Academy of Music educates musicians, composers, music pedagogues and music therapists. The Academy is a vital artistic arena with extensive concert activity, research and development projects. Students can qualify for degrees at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level. The Norwegian Academy of Music has capacity for 475 students, employs 140 permanent staff, and has an annual budget of approx. NOK 165 million.
 

PhD Research Fellowships


4-5 position as PhD research fellow are available at the Norwegian Academy of Music within the two doctoral programmes Performance Practice and Music Education and Music Therapy
 The appointments are for the duration of 3 years, starting 1 September 2012.
Projects affiliated with the ongoing research within the following R & D focus areas at the academy will be prioritized:

Succesful candidateswill be enrolled in the Academy’s organised researcher training  and must also engage in the designated research activities on a 100 percent basis.  The academic study will terminate in a doctoral thesis which will be defended at the Academy, leading to a PhD-degree.
Requirements
  • A 5 year Master degree, or equivalent, in an area relevant to the topic of the doctoral dissertation.

Qualifications and Personal Skills
  • In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description and on the assumed academic and personal ability on the part of the candidate to complete the dissertation within the given time frame.
  • The candidate must demonstrate good cooperative skills, and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration across disciplines.
