A network which aims at bringing together different strands of Nordic based research in the field of music, culture and health!
Welcome to the homepage for the Nordic Network of Research in Music, Culture, and Health (MUCH, a name which comes from the first letters in MUsic, Culture, Health)
The Nordic Network of Research in Music, Culture and Health is a project that unites a group of reserachers from the Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. The network was formally founded at a meeting at The Norwegian Academy of Music in January 2010 and aims at bringing together different strands of Nordic based research in the field of music, culture and health. This aim is pursued through meetings, workshops and conferences.
Why a Nordic Network?
During the last ten years we have seen an increasing interest in the area of arts and health and humanistic medicine, where art forms and therapies, such as music and music therapy, have been utilized as health promoting activities. This new potential for using cultural resources in health promotion is recognized by the authorities within the area of health and culture. Public reports, books, national and international conferences, new educational programs as well as new centres for music and health or culture and health have emerged internationally during the last few years. All these efforts can be understood in the light of an international tendency to view medical actions within a larger cultural context, which sees cultural engagement and participation as a source of health behaviour.
